Striking vintage Japanese kokeshi doll made in the sosaku (creative) style, dating to the mid-century modern era. This tall sculptural piece features a minimalist rounded head with closed eyes, bold graphic hairline painting, and a dramatically elongated cylindrical body. The doll is permanently installed onto a flat wooden base, giving it a strong okimono-style display presence. The body is finished in deep blackened wood with a contrasting warm brown obi sash, decorated with geometric asanoha (hemp leaf) motifs in subtle gold and white tones. The clean lines, restrained palette, and architectural proportions are characteristic of postwar Japanese design and mingei-influenced studio craft. Artist unknown.
